Tamale Turns Out To Welcome President

Thousands of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters and sympathisers on Monday thronged the Tamale airport to welcome President Kufuor to begin a five-day tour to the Northern Region.

The excitement got to its climax when the Fokker 28 presidential jet touched down on the tarmac.

As the President drove through the streets to the palace of the Tamale regent, the people, clad in NPP colours, flocked onto the street to cheer and welcome the President.

Though it was not a holiday, market women, businessmen and women, storekeepers and other workers abandoned their work temporarily to join the Party supporters to cheer and welcome the President.

Observers say the President?s visit to the region, especially Tamale, would improve on his chances in the forthcoming elections since many including his supporters had doubted that he would visit the town.

Addressing a mammoth rally later at the Police Park, President Kufuor assured the people that the government would not rest until the perpetrators of the heinous crime at Dagbon were found.
