Tamale Teaching Hospital To Collapse?

The Chief Executive of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Professor Frimpong Boateng, has expressed worry about the deplorable state of the Tamale Teaching Hospital and appealed for an urgent action to save it from collapse.

He noted that the structures at the hospital do not befit the status of a regional hospital and wondered how the health professionals were managing with the situation. ?It is a shame to have these dilapidated structures as a regional hospital for referral cases,? Prof Boateng lamented here on Tuesday when he commissioned an Eye Clinic at the Tamale Hospital.

The Ghana Health Regional Directorate, in collaboration with the Swiss Red Cross, refurbished the clinic to facilitate the provision of quality eye care service at the hospital.

Prof Boateng blamed the deplorable state of the hospital on all, including health administrators, health workers, politicians and citizens saying, ?it is our actions and inactions that have contributed to this bad situation of the hospital.? He pointed out that Ghanaians lacked the culture of maintenance and always waited until everything got bad before ?we think of repairs or refurbishment when it is too late.?

Prof Boateng therefore called for immediate action to put the structures of the hospital in right shape to befit its status. ?It is time for all to advocate the total refurbishment of the hospital to its status as a teaching hospital,? Prof Boateng stated. He advised health workers against laziness and absenteeism and asked them to be punctual and dedicated to their duties at all times.
