Tamale-Savelugu Highway accident death toll now 27

Tamale (N/R), Nov. 28, GNA – The death toll in the Tamale-Savelugu Highway road crash that occurred on Saturday November 26, has risen to 27, authorities at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday.

those in critical condition died a day after the accident, in which 21 people died on the spot. The remaining died later in hospital.

The condition of 21 other victims, who sustained various degrees of injury including multiple fracture and head injury have been stabilized, and are responding well to treatment. 15 of them are at the Surgical Ward while the remaining six are at the Physiotherapy Department.

Meanwhile, two victims have been treated and discharged.

Mr Yahaya Wanzam Adam, who is in-charge of the Surgical Ward at the TTH, made this known to the GNA, saying the hospital is on top of the situation and working round the clock to save the lives of those on admission.

Back at the mortuary, relatives had taken away 16 of the dead for burial, while two of the dead were yet to be identified.

Amongst the dead included five women and four children.

Police sources said the accident involved a Benz bus with registration number AS7510F and a Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number AS9905Y.

The MMT Bus was travelling from Bolgatanga to Tamale while the Benz bus was travelling from Kumasi to Bolgatanga.

The Benz bus was making an overtaking and collided with the MMT bus around 0830 GMT.
