Tamale Police responsible for deaths – Mayor

The Mayor of Tamale has accused Police in the Northern region of being lukewarm in their response to security alerts.

Hanan Abdul-Rahman Gundadow says the failure of the police to respond quickly to security matters has resulted in some deaths over the past couple of months.

He said the lethargy of the police could be blamed for the shooting incident at Aboabo in Tamale on Monday.

25-year-old Rashid Mustapha was beaten to death hours before the police arrived at the scene of the incident.

This incident comes days after another resident was shot over the weekend.

Abdul – Rahman Gundadow in an interview with XYZ News said a lot can be improve in terms of security in the northern region if the police will get serious with how they respond to security issues.

He says the Security Council within the metropolis won’t hesitate imposing a curfew if need be to ensure that residents are safe in the area.

Meanwhile, members of a youth group, Khandaha Boys in Tamale, have been invited by the police to assist with investigations into the murder of one of their colleagues, Mohammed Naziru.

His death led to a suspected reprisal attack on 25-year-old Rashid Mustapha on Monday.

The Khandaha group had given the police a ten-day ultimatum to find the killers or take the law into its own hands.

But the police are now inviting the members of the youth group to provide information towards arresting perpetrators of the crime.

Anyass Gazali, one of the leaders of the Khandaha boys in Tamale confirmed that the Police has invited them for interrogation.
