Tamale Metropolitan Health Directorate awards staff

Tamale, Feb 07, GNA – Dr John Abenyeri, Tamale Metropolitan Director of Health Services, has advised health personnel to change their negative attitudes towards patients and other clients to promote good will in the sector.

He said the Ghana Health Service (GHS) was meant for clients and acts of health personnel towards them should be quality-driven, result-oriented and client-focused so as to achieve desire results. Dr Abenyeri made the call at an awards night on Saturday to honour health workers who last year performed well.

“Everything we do is to satisfy our clients and negative acts will reduce the client patronage. One of the reasons why people don’t patronize public sector health services is the negative utterance by some health workers.”

He said some nurses and other health personnel at times treated patients with contempt and called on them to change that attitude for the GHS to win public confidence.

Seven individuals as well as two health centres in the Metropolis received awards.

Ms Hawabu Iddrisu and Hajia Azara Amadu received the “Best Reproductive Health Worker” and “DHMT” awards respectively, while the “Best District Worker” award went to Rose Bamame Atia. They all took home a 20-inch colour Television set each and certificates.

Mr Kwame Lambon, the only male to win a prize, was adjudged the “Best Vittin Sub-District Health Worker” and Immaculate Wenue, won the “Best Salerigu sub-district Health Worker award while Genevieve Jimpetey had the Tamale Central Sub-District Health Worker Award.

Bulpella Health Centre won the best Health Centre award while Vittin was adjudged the Best Sub-district in the metropolis. They took away ghetto blasters and tabletop fridges.

Dr Elias Sory, Northern Regional Director of Health Services, commended the personnel for their teamwork and urged them to maintain it.
