Tamale, Sept. 13, GNA – Mr Mohammed Amin Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive on Wednesday warned that the assembly would blacklist contractors who undertake shoddy work while those who unduly delayed projects would have their contracts terminated and re-awarded. Mr Adam gave the warning during an inspection tour of rehabilitated sanitation projects within the Tamale Metropolis undertaken by the assembly to improve sanitation.
The assembly has earmarked more than one billion cedis from its share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund to improve public toilet facilities to befit the metropolitan status of Tamale. The MCE inspected toilets at Moshie Zongo, Salamba, “Ward E” and Builpeila where most of the facilities were under rehabilitation at a cost of about 650 million cedis.
He also inspected a 436 million-cedi 20-seater KVIP project at South Lamashegu and expressed satisfaction at the rate of work. Mr Adam however, advised the contractor to liaise with the assembly member for the area to ensure proper supervision of the work to prevent indiscriminate defecation at the work site. At Moshie Zongo, Mr Adam was disappointed with the contractor, who had not commenced work even though the contract was awarded about a month ago, and threatened to terminate the contract when the contractor failed to commence work within three days.
He said Tamale deserved to be modernised in view of “CAN 2008”, to attract foreign investors during and after the “soccer fiesta”. The MCE advised the people to practise good personal hygiene and maintained clean environment to prevent diseases such as malaria, cholera and typhoid.
