Tamale Lions Club Now Joins International Body

Tamale (N/R), June 23, – Tamale Tisung Lions Club was at the weekend presented with a charter as a formal affiliation to Lions Club International, a Non-Governmental Organisation seeking to foster community development interventions, patriotism, unity and co-operation. Mr Koussan Matthias Gbadoe-Sognigbe, past district governor of Lions Club International who performed the presentation ceremony, urged the local club to transcend ethnic, national and other parochial sentiments and be dedicated to the principles of international friendship, understanding and tolerance. ”My dear new Lions of Tamale, you must know that from now on the whole of mankind has its eyes on you. Never forget that our association remains the biggest and most active service club in the world,” he said after handing over the charter insignia to the club whose motto is ”we serve.” Lions Clubs International began in June, 1917 when a young Chicago insurance agent, Melvin Jones, now the secretary general of the club, convinced a group of business clubs, about the need to form a joint movement to help the distressed. There are now over 43,000 clubs in about 180 countries worldwide.
