Tamale, Feb. 6, GNA – Management of the Hospital in Tamale has bemoaned the acute shortage of personnel, a situation, which, it said was hampering the performance of the hospital.
The management has therefore, called for assistance to improve the staffing position of the hospital, expand the Out-Patient Department (OPD) and to construct more wards and other infrastructure for the health facility to befit Metropolitan status.
Dr Sam Baffour Obeng-Agyei, Medical Superintendent of the hospital made the appeal when he presented a paper on the state of the West Hospital at a day’s Annual Review Meeting of the Tamale Metropolitan Health Directorate in Tamale on Friday.
The meeting was to provide the a forum for members to review the performance of the sector during the past year and to see how best they could improve on their services in areas that they fell short.
Dr Obeng-Agyei said there were only one Senior Medical Officer, two Principal Medical Assistants and Nursing Officers respectively, while there were only one Senior Nursing Officer and one Ward Assistant at post.
Additionally, he said there were two temporary Cuban doctors and called for more health professionals to be posted to the hospital to enhance quality healthy care delivery in the region.
He noted that the hospital would need additional two Medical Officers, four Medical Assistants, six Midwives, one Pharmacist, one Dispensary Technician and six general nurses.
Other personnel the hospital would need were A Biostatics Assistant, Hospital Administrator, Executive Officer and Disease Control Officer as well as Public Health Nurses and X-Ray Technicians.
The Medical Superintendent called on the contractor working on the fence wall, who abandoned the job midstream to resume work and complete the project.
