Tamale Chief, 2 others before court for ‘stealing’ corpse

The Tamale Dakpema Entertainment Chief, Diema Naa, Mohammed Hafiz Abdulai has been hauled before a Tamale District Magistrate Court presided over by Mr. Anthony Assah for allegedly stealing a corpse from the Tamale Teaching Hospital(TTH) Mortuary.

Diema Naa who has been charged alongside the mortuary man and Imoro Ibrahim a driver, were arrested by the police for allegedly removing a corpse without authorization from the facility’s mortuary.

The deceased who has not been identified, was contracted by someone at the Tamale Central Market to fix an electrical problem but was electrocuted in the process.

While investigations surrounding the circumstances that led to the death were ongoing, the police deposited the body for autopsy at the TTH mortuary, but before they could conclude their work, the suspects reportedly went to the mortuary, removed the body and hurriedly buried it.

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) who confirmed the incident, said the accused persons were charged with hindrance of inquest but have since been granted bail by the court after they pleaded guilty.

The three are expected in court in a fortnight.
