Talensi seat declared vacant

The Talensi seat has been declared vacant by the Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho.

It follows the enstoolment of the occupant Robert Mosore as chief of the Talensi traditional area.

Ghana’s laws bars traditional leaders from engaging in active politics.

The speaker last week gave hints of his decision to rule on the matter following weeks of intense debate between the minority and majority caucuses of the House over the refusal of their colleague to officially vacate the seat as required by law.

In his ruling Tuesday, Doe Adjoho said the member has personally informed him (Speaker) of his new status, Starr News’ Kobby Mensah Gomez reported from the chamber Tuesday.

The development means that a by-election must be organised in the constituency to elect a new MP for the area.
