Talensi Nabdam Unit Committees asked to assist in revenue mobilization

Tongo (UE), June 4, GNA – Mrs Vivian Anafo, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi-Nabdam District, has called on newly elected Unit Committee Members to assist the Assembly in revenue mobilization. She made the call during the inauguration of 175 Unit Committee Member= s of the Nabdam and Talensi Area Councils at Tongo, at the weekend. She said if Unit Committee Members assisted in revenue mobilization, which forms part of their duty, it would have helped increase the internall= y generated revenue and 93our share of the District Assembly Common Fund’= ‘.

She asked the Unit Committee Members to ensure that revenue collected i= n their respective areas was duly accounted for by revenue collectors. Mrs Anafo entreated the members to whip up communal spirit of the peopl= e to enable them to initiate and execute their own projects.

“The fact is that government or the District Assembly cannot provide all the needs of the community due to competing demands from other communities. Let me state that communities that initiate their own projects and turn to the Assembly for support to complete them will definitely receive such support” Mrs Anafo said that the Government’s better Ghana agenda could not b= e achieved without the involvement of the various political structures of the District, including the Unit Committees. She challenged the Unit Committees to demand good quality services from officials and contractors executing projects, stressing that they must report all anomalies detected to the District Assemblies for appropriate action. Mrs Anafo asked the members to bury their political differences and work as a team for the development of the people.

She said that plans were far advanced by the District Assembly to organize series of capacity building programmes for Unite Committee Members to help them to perform their duties effectively. The Presiding High Court Judge, Paul Richardson, who swore the Unit Committee Members into office, entreated them to work assiduously to justif= y the confidence reposed in them by the electorate.
