Takoradi workers express dissatisfaction with services of two banks

Takoradi, April 4, GNA – The Sekondi-Takoradi District Council of Labour has cautioned workers of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) to adopt a more friendly approach to their customers. The Council said long queues, unfriendly atmosphere, unappealing attitudes, were making its members who are customers of the two banks, stressful, discouraging and services less attractive. Leaders of the Council gave the caution at a meeting at Takoradi on Thursday. They said often, there were no officials to answer queries and the request for one’s bank statement was usually not processed on time and cautioned that “undue delays, disrespect for customers and arrogance must change”. They said though workers of these institutions were all union members, their human relations needed to change to reflect the changing times. Doctor Anthony Yaw Baah, Head of the Policy and Research Department of the Trades Union Congress, said the decision by government to sell ADB must be persistently resisted by all workers because, there was the likelihood that in future, “even public hospitals would be sold”. “Selling public institutions is not the solution but rather there was the need to improve on services at all facilities to make them competitive,” he added. Dr Baah commended government for the introduction of the National Youth Employment Programme, saying the concept had led to a reduction in unemployment.
