Takoradi hosts Miss Africa Pageant Today

The first ever beauty Pageant dubbed Miss Africa Pageant will take place on Saturday November 25, at the Planter’s Lodge in Takoradi.
According to Mr David Dontoh, the Creative Director for the Western Consult, organizers of the competition, what will make this pageant so unique from the others like Miss Universe, Miss Ghana, Face of Africa and the rest is that the competition will look out for beauty in the Africa concept, where it is believed that a woman’s beauty can only be seen in the native attire she wears, such as ‘collar’ (a piece of cloth) tied across the neck which reveals the curvatures of a woman.
“Again, as David describes, to determine poise and gait, the African woman will be asked to walk on the stage bare footed, not jumping or hoping but in the graceful swinging of the arms”.
The organisers intend to disqualify ladies who have bleached their skin. Also, each contestant will be required to wear a hair-do that is strictly African, even though it is not a yardstick to disqualify the contestants.
Furtherance to this, the pageant will have a special side attraction for hairstyles. The emphasis is on the use of African motifs and creative idioms to capture eye pleasing styles.
The competition begins with a pre-pageant session from which twelve ladies will be selected for the finals.
Then the major sponsors, GTP will provide Woodin and Ahenfie collection of fabrics; while Lever Brothers gives Claricer Hair products to the contestants to be used for the pageant.
