Takoradi hospitals record five births on Christmas Day

Kwesiminstim (W/R) Dec. 26 GNA- Two hospitals in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region recorded five births on Christmas Day.

The Kwesiminstim Hospital recorded three births; two females and a male while the Takoradi Hospital recorded two births; a male and a female.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the births on Boxing Day, Ms. Anna Austin, a nursing officer in charge of the Kwesiminstim hospital, said the introductions of the National Health Insurance scheme (NHIS) had greatly improved health care delivery at hospital. She said previously some women spent several days at the wards after being discharged because they could not settle their bills. Ms. Kate Coleman, a nursing officer at the Takoradi Hospital, expressed worry that some expectant mothers within the Amanful and New Takoradi communities did not attend antenatal clinic. He said they were usually brought to the hospital in critical conditions, which could result in increased maternal mortality rate. Ms Coleman appealed to pregnant women to visit antenatal clinic, stressing that pregnancy scan could help in assessing the condition of the foetus and the expectant mother. 27 Dec. 07
