Takoradi Habour to Be Dredged

Dredging of the Takoradi Harbour, which has been on the drawing board for many years would definitely begin in June, to enable bigger ships to dock there.

Mrs Gladys Asmah, Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, said the project would not only help to ease congestion at the Tema Harbour but would also make the harbour the point of call for many foreign ships.

She was speaking at a political forum to brief her constituents on the work of Parliament, policies and programmes of the government and the employment

situation at Takoradi, on Sunday.

The harbour, which was built in 1928 has a depth of about nine metres and Mrs Asmah, who is the MP for Takoradi, said after the dredging, the port would have a depth of at least 12 metres.

She also disclosed that feasibility studies are going on for the expansion of the railway network for efficient transportation of goods and services.
