Takoradi: 62nd Remembrance Day service.

At Takoradi, a service was on Sunday held at the Takoradi Cenotaph to commemorate the 62nd Remembrance Day. A contingent of the Western Regional Veterans Association of Ghana (VAT) was on parade, while the Regimental Band of Air Force Station, Takoradi provided music.

Squadron Leader Reverend Father Philip Mensah, who led the service, said it was fitting for the nation to honour servicemen who lost their lives during the two world wars and other military engagements.

He said these noble men who laid down their lives should be remembered because a time would come when those now living would need others to pray for them when they die.

Squadron Leader Mensah said those who die in the Lord had hope of salvation.

Sub-Lieutenant Reverend David Benedict Quayson, read the Christian scripture and Lieutenant Imam Najmu-deen Aghere Mohammed, said Muslim prayers and exhortation.

Ex-Chief Petty Officer Class One Solomon Nana Amankwa, Regional Chairman of VAG, read the Binyon verse. Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, laid a wreath on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, Naval Captain Steve Darbo, on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces and Mr Robert Azu, acting Regional Police Commander, on behalf of the security services.
