Akoefe-Avenui (V/R), July 14, GNA – The Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Church, Right Reverend Dr Livingstone Komla Buama, has advised members of the church to desist from the politicisation of the election of Church leaders. He said they should not politicise the upcoming August election of Church leaders since the phenomenon could split the Church. Rt. Rev. Dr. Buama made the appeal at the opening of the 14th annual national delegates conference of the Presbyters Union of the Church at Akoefe-Avenui at the weekend.
He said suggestion that candidates vying for the office of a Moderator should present their manifestoes was alien to the church. He, therefore, appealed to those campaigning for some of the candidates and mudslinging others to stop the unchristian practice. About 100 delegates from all the nine Presbyteries of the Church attended the three-day conference, under the theme ‘called to serve’. Rt. Rev. Dr. Buama said the Church has laid down procedures for electing its Moderator, which should not be disregarded. “As Christians, let us seek divine guidance in electing the next Moderator instead of relying on our own wisdom. “It should be the prayer of every true member of the EP Church that it comes out united and stronger after the election of the Moderator next month”, he said.
Mr Simon Tette, President of the Union advised those in leadership positions that their lives must be dedicated to service towards world peace. He said the Union has plans to establish economic ventures to create jobs for the youth as a way of eradicating poverty in the society.
