Upper Bobikuma (C/R), Mar 7, GNA – Mr Ernest Ofei Ansah, National Financial Secretary of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Choristers Union, has called on choristers to take advantage of the upcoming voters registration exercise to enable them exercise franchise in the December 2004, general election.
He said it was their civic responsibility to take part in the exercise so that they could chose the right people to rule the country. Mr Ansah was speaking at the 9th Annual Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Choirs Union of the Central Presbytery at Upper Bobikuma, in the Agona District of the Central Region.
He said it would not be fair for Christians especially Choristers to refuse to register when exercise opens this month”. The Theme for the three-day conference was “Come Let Us Walk in the Light of God”.
The Financial Secretary urged them to be tolerant of divergent political views to ensure peace and stability, adding that, “if there is war in the country, Christians cannot hold Church activities so there is the need for Christians to pray for God’s protection and blessings for the nation”.
Mr Ansah said it was sad to note that marriages had broken down due to the political arguments between couples.
He urged the Choristers to play an active role and to honour all their commitments to the Church.
Mrs Elizabeth Lani Ashong, National Secretary of Presbyterian Church of Ghana Choirs Union, said members do not sing alone, but also propagate the Gospel to people in remote parts of the country. She said the Union had embarked on an HIV/AIDS campaign to educate the members about the dangers of the disease.
Mrs Ashong said the Church would soon embark on batik tie and die, soap making and bee keeping for unemployed members to earn an income.
