Take Andre Ayew to the World Cup – Techiman City Founder to Otto Addo

Techiman City founder, Mickey Charles, has called on the Ghana Football Association and Black Stars head coach Otto Addo to include Andre Ayew in the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the veteran forward still has a vital role to play.

Charles believes it would be a fitting tribute to a player who has “served the badge with honour and dignity” for nearly two decades.

“It will be befitting to send Andre Ayew to the World Cup,” he said. “Ghana must not make the continuous mistake of forcefully retiring players who have served the badge with honour and dignity.”

Ayew, 35, is Ghana’s most-capped player and has featured in every World Cup the Black Stars have qualified for since 2010. Despite questions about his current form, Charles insists the former captain still brings irreplaceable qualities.

“Andre is only 35 and still wields the energy and leadership to guide this team. He doesn’t necessarily have to start games but can play a crucial role when his leadership is needed both on and off the pitch,” he added.

Charles urged Otto Addo to value experience and legacy as much as youthful talent when making his final selection.

“I strongly recommend that Coach Otto Addo include our legend in his squad, who is still active, to at least thank him for his immense service to our dear nation.”

Ayew’s inclusion would spark national debate, with some fans calling for a new generation to take centre stage, while others share Charles’ belief that leadership and experience are essential at the highest level.
