Take advantage of ‘Planting for food and Jobs’ – Minister to workers

The Upper West Regional Minister, Suleman Alhassan has appealed to public workers take advantage of government’s planting for food and jobs campaign to go into farming in order to supplement their income.

According to him, it has the potential of increasing their income advising them not to shy away from farming as it has been found out to be lucrative and a source of livelihood if they commit to it religiously at their leisure time.

Addressing workers at the May Day celebration held at Nadowli, he reiterated government’s commitment to expand social amenities throughout the country to benefit the citizenry

The regional minister commended workers from both formal and informal sectors for their invaluable services to the attainment of organizational goals and national development.

He said it was imperative government continues to render gratitude to workers for their continuous efforts and support which have seen the country develop steadily over the years.

Suleman Alhassan observed that the theme for this year’s celebration “Ghana at 60: mobilizing for Ghana’s future through the creation of decent jobs “was aptly chosen and could not have waited for any other time.

Ayamga Bawa Fatawu a freelance journalist, reported that the minister in his concluding remarks, appealed to organised Labour to join government’s fight against illegal mining which is destroying the vegetation and polluting our water bodies in the country.

Clad in various union T-shirts, some workers managed to articulate their concerns to government through banners and placards with various inscriptions.

The processions were accompanied by brass band music.
