Take advantage of opportunities to empower yourselves – youth urged

The National Youth Authority (NYA) on Thursday called on the youth of the country to take advantage of existing opportunities and empower themselves for the task of building a better Ghana.

The call was contained in a statement issued by the Authority to mark this year’s International Day of the Youth at Sekondi.

The Day was under the theme: “Building a Better World, Partnership with the Youth”.

The NYA also urged the private sector, civil society and academia to welcome young people into their fold and strengthen partnership with youth-led and youth focused organizations to build a better young women and men for a better Ghana.

The statement signed by Mrs Sedina Tamakloe Attonu, the National Coordinator of the NYA, said the youth must serve as active and effective partners in development and youth participation is a key tenet of the authority and also in the implementation of the National Youth Policy.

It noted that it was under the tenure of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills that the National Youth Policy was launched, the Africa Youth Charter rectified and a clause on youth empowerment was included in the constitution through the issuance of a white paper on the report of the Constitution Review Commission.

The statement said the National Youth Policy directly aimed at empowering the youth.

It said President John Dramani Mahama equally recognises the youth as agents of change capable of transforming the country and has asked the youth to support him to better place for all.
