Take action on death of IPS student – GUPS

Accra, Dec 3, GNA – The Ghana Union of Professional Students (GUPS) on Tuesday, called on the Ministry of Health to take action against a nurse whose alleged negligence of duty caused the death of a student of the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS).

A statement signed by Carl N.A. Addo, National Secretary of GUPS, said the union “owes it a duty to report to its members an assurance of effective measures being adopted to check such dehumanising lapses in the sector”. The statement appealed to professional organisations to set a high code of conduct for their members.

“Professionalism and discipline are requisite tools for cultivating developmental attitudes for national growth”.

The statement also called on the Ghana AIDS Commission to support professional students to research into “a more strategic and multidimensional approach in tackling the HIV/AIDS scourge”.

The Union said it had nothing against funding of political parties but was rather concerned about some long-known problems in the educational sector.
