Tailors appeal for government support

Nkoranza (B/A), Nov. 25, GNA – Mr. Isaac Takyi Boafo, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of Ghana Tailors and Dressmakers Association, has appealed to the government to make funds available to enable members to expand their businesses and create more jobs for the youth.

Addressing members of the Nkoranza District branch of the Association at its third anniversary celebration at Nkoranza, Mr. Boafo said government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of creating jobs for the increasing number of the youth.

He urged municipal and district assemblies to also assist the various associations to make members become self-sufficient and advised members of the associations to pay their taxes regularly to support the assemblies. Mr. Francis Kongwie, secretary, expressed regret that some parents had refused to provide basic support to their children engaged in vocations, which he said had led most of the apprentices, especially the girls, to indulge in immoral acts to fend for themselves. Fourteen apprentices who took part in last year’s examinations conducted by the association were presented with certificates of proficiency. 25 Nov 09
