Tailor swindles two people of 240,000 CFA franc

A tailor, who allegedly swindled two electrical welders of 240,000 CFA franc under the pretext of helping them to travel to Algeria was on Thursday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court to answer for his crime.

Adam Maazu pleaded not guilty and was granted GH?10,000.00 bail with two sureties to be justified.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Afua Adu-Amankwaah, ordered him to make the next appearance on Wednesday, December 09.

Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah said the offence was committed in year 2012.

The accused presented himself to the victims – Peter Ankobea and Bernard Cobbina, as a Ghanaian-based in Algeria, who could arrange to travel with them to the North African country, where he claimed there was high demand for the services of electric welders.

The pair fell for the bait and paid between them 240,000 CFA franc.

The prosecution said Maazu then left together with the two to Togo enroute to Algeria but there, abandoned them.

Ankobea and Cobbina never heard from nor saw the accused until June 07, this year, when the former chanced upon him at Krofrom in Kumasi.

He raised the alarm and with the assistance of some other people arrested and handed over Maazu to the police.

Police Chief Inspector Akowuah said he profusely denied the offence in his cautioned statement.
