Tafo Constituency of the NPP organises People’s Assembly

Kumasi, April 4, GNA- Government has allocated 103 million dollars to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to rehabilitate old pipelines throughout the country.

Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo, announced this at the People’s Assembly organised by Tafo Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumasi at the weekend.

He said the financial commitment of Government was meant to improve on water supply to every community.

Dr Osei defended the 50 per cent hike in petroleum products, saying the action was necessary since Government could no longer afford the about two trillion cedis subsidy on fuel.

He said the Kufuor Administration had imported 350 metro transport buses into the country and expressed the hope that the number would increase to 1,000 by the end of the year to improve on the transportation system.

Dr Osei said as MP, he would strive to provide the necessary infrastructure including the construction of roads, classroom blocks and provision of electricity to the area.

Mr Ebenezer Kobina Garbrah, Chief Manager of the GWCL in the Ashanti Region, said efforts were being made to carryout repair works on the broken down pumps at the Barekese dam to improve on water supply to the Metropolis and surrounding communities.

During an open forum, the people appealed to the MP to assist to improve local transportation system, encroachment of lands at the Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School at Tafo and the completion of on-going developmental projects in the Constituency.
