Tafi-Agome (VR), Oct. 6, GNA – The Tafi-Agome Youth Association in

the Hohoe District is building a 70-million cedi block of classrooms through voluntary contributions. The project that includes an office and a dinning hall has reached lintel level.

Mr Robert Atsu, Chairman of the Association at a fundraising at Tafi-Agome last Saturday, said since its establishment, the group has spent over 305 million cedis on development projects. He said the 600 people in the area, who are predominantly farmers, voluntarily contributed to finance a community clinic, the provision of potable water, construction of a block of six classrooms and the extension of electricity to the town. Mr Atsu said the Association has drawn up a five-year development programme aimed at improving the living standard of the people. He said projects envisaged under the programme were the construction of nurses and teachers’ quarters, KVIP toilet, a block of three classrooms and the provision of furniture for schools in the area. He appealed to the Hohoe District Assembly to assist the group with building materials to supplement their efforts.

In a speech read on his behalf, Mr James Dogbe, Hohoe District Chief Executive, commended the community for its initiative. He appealed to the Association to be conversant with the Health Insurance Scheme to enable them educate the people. Ms Vivian Adoboe, an opinion leader of the town, commended the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs for providing the people with a cassava-processing machine and making available a grant of 25 million cedis to the people. About 5 million cedis were raised at the function.
