Tackie-Komme calls for an end to the violence at Agbogbloshie

Accra, Feb 08, GNA – Mr Jonathan Tackie-Komme, MP for Odododiodioo, in the Greater Accra Region has called for a lasting solution to the perennial spate of violence between factions at the Old Fadama and Agbogbloshie area within the constituency.

Speaking at a victory get-together of the “Guy Jesus” branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Ayalolo in Accra at the Weekend, the MP described the hostilities between the factions as unfortunate. Mr Tackie-Komme said that while he would not apportion blame, note should be taken of the statement by the Police that the issue was above politics and a solution must be found to the hostilities and violence in the area.

The MP said he would invite colleague Parliamentarians from the Dagomba area of the Northern Region and other stakeholders for a meeting to end the disturbances at Old Fadama and Agbogbloshie. He appealed to the people to participate actively in the efforts to rid the city of filth and commended them for patronizing the clean-up exercises organized by the Zoomlion Company and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

Mr Tackie-Komme said he would launch a clean-up exercise within the constituency to rid the area of filth.

He thanked the constituents for retaining him as their MP and also for voting the NDC into power and donated GH¢50 to support the branch. Mr Daniel Okai, Constituency Chairman, described the assumption of office of the NDC as a good omen for the country, saying that, the victory of the National under 20 football team at the recent African tournament in Rwanda was “the beginning of better things to come”. He recalled that just some few weeks after Former President Rawlings had taken power in 1981, the Black Stars also won the African Cup of Nations in 1982 in Libya.

Mr Festus Bekoe Constituency Vice Chairman described the present situation of the NDC as “the disadvantage of success” due to the many demands on the party by the electorate and supporters of the party, even though it had been in power for only one month. He urged supporters and members of the party to remain patient for the NDC to complete the transitional period.
