System failure plunges nation into darkness

A system failure early Thursday morning plunged Ghana into darkness, barely a month after the nation’s power producer, VRA; Transmitter, GRIDCo and Distributor, ECG, began supplying regular power.

Major parts of the country have been left without power.

The exact cause of the system failure is unclear but the incident occurred around 5.30am on January 21.

Apart from Accra, Tema also went off the grid. Sources within ECG say most supply lines across the country are also down.
