Swedruman Traditional Council bans expensive funerals

Agona Swedru, March 20, GNA – Swedruman Traditional Council has banned organising expensive funerals in Agona Swedru Municipality with immediate effect. It has also banned the use of ambulances with siren and long convoy of vehicles following corpses through the principal streets of Agona Swedru.

Nana Ogidigram Odiowusiew Aseidu Kobina Botwe II, Chief of Agona Swedru announced this at the council’s meeting at Agona Swedru in the Central Region on Thursday.

He warned that offenders would not be spared. Nana Botwe announced the ban after the family of Mr Emmanuel Smith also known as Fantasy appeared before the council and ordered to pay 200 Ghana cedis, three bottles of schnapps and a sheep for flouting the bye-law after the final funeral rites of his mother at Agona Swedru. He cautioned family heads in Agona Swedru Municipality to abide by the ban. 20 March 09
