Swedru Police arrest three soldiers for robbery

Agona Swedru, May 8, GNA – Three soldiers, suspected to be from the Central Band Unit at Burma Camp in Accra, have been arrested at Agona Swe= dru for alleged attempted robbery. The solders, who have been placed police custody at Agona Swedru, ar= e Lance Corporal Robert Afful, Lance Corporal Joseph Arthur and Lance Corpo= ral Patrick Biney.

Detective Chief Inspector William Amoah, of the Swedru District Crim= e Office made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) a= t Agona Swedru on Saturday. He said a fourth soldier, who jumped from a moving commercial bus on=

the Accra -Swedru road is at large and is being wanted by the Agona Swedr= u Police.

According to Chief Inspector Amoah, at about 0200 hours of Saturday,=

May 8, the four soldiers in uniforms went to an internet caf=E9 at Agona Swedru and demanded a permit from one Mr Samuel Bentum, who was in charge= of the centre.

He said Mr Bentum told the soldiers that the owner of the caf=E9 was= in the house and would be able to produce the permit if they see him, but th= e soldiers were not satisfied with the explanation. He said the soldiers handcuffed Mr Bentum and pushed him into an Aud= i Saloon Car with registration number GT 2904 N being driven by one of them= .. Chief Inspector Amoah said that one Mr Isaac Adjei, who was passing by, suspected a foul deal and quickly called the police with his mobile phone= , The police responded quickly by rushing to the scene and arrested tw= o of the soldiers but the other two managed to run away.

The Detective Police Officer said one of the soldiers, Lance Corpora= l Biney, who took to his heels, was later arrested on a Accra bound Benz bu= s on the Swedru/Winneba road but the fourth whose name was not immediately known, jumped from the moving vehicle into the bush. Chief Inspector Amoah said the three soldiers would be arraigned bef= ore court on Monday while investigations are on-going.
