Agona Swedru, March 27, GNA – The Agona Swedru Area Branch of the Ghana Telecommunications Company (GT), has instituted an award of 1,000 Ghana Cedis for persons who arrested cable thieves and 500 Ghana Cedis for informants.
Mr Emmanuel Kofi Baiden, Swedru Area Manager of GT said this when he briefed journalists at Agona Swedru on the recent spate of cable thefts at Agona Swedru and Gomoa Manso. He said that during the Easter holidays, the company discovered that 310 meters of Aerial Cables had been stolen along the Gomoa Manso route estimated at 2,000 Ghana Cedis and which affected 40 customers in the area.
He said in January this year, a total of 350 meters of cable were stolen at Gomoa Ekwamkrom affecting 98 customers. The Area Manager expressed regret that over the years GT had faced the problem of underground and aerial cable thefts and said the situation had affected the operations of the company. He appealed to communities in the area to reactivate their watch-dog committees to complement the patrols of security personnel in the area, adding that the company would motivate committee members who helped to bring the perpetrators to book. Mr Baiden appealed to the public and the Media to assist Ghana Telecom to monitor and halt the activities of those unpatriotic Ghanaians.
