Suspected Winners Church members invade Ho branch

Ho, July 7, GNA – A quick response by the Ho Police Wednesday evening prevented an otherwise violent clash, following an attempt by a faction in the Winners Chapel impasse from Accra to forcefully take over the Ho branch of the Church.

Eyewitnesses told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that busloads of the Accra faction of the Winners Church, suspected to be supporters of Bishop George Adjeman, embattled leader of the Ghana branch, invaded the premises of the Ho Chapel at dusk.

However, they met a strong resistance from the local congregation, the witnesses added.

The GNA heard that the situation created panic among some local church members and residents in the area, some of whom called the police to intervene.

A Police Source confirmed the incident, but said only the District Police Commander, who had gone home at the time the GNA got to the station, could provide details of the incident. “They have all dispersed and the Commander has also gone home, so come and see him tomorrow,” the source said.
