Suspected murderers before court

Aflao (V/R), Sept. 16, GNA – Emmanuel Ametepe, 54, and Kodzo Yegbe, 27, appeared before the Aflao Circuit Court on Monday for allegedly murdering 35-year-old Andrews Yegbe.

The suspects were believed to have slit the deceased’s throat over a piece of land at Anyieme, near Akatsi in the Volta Region. The pleas of the accused persons were not taken and they were remanded to re-appear on September 29, this year.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Pius Cudjoe of the Akatsi Police told the court that the deceased and the accused persons and four accomplices currently on the run, lived in Anyieme.

He said there was disagreement between the deceased and the accused persons over a piece of land.

Chief Inspector Cudjoe said at about 1900 hours on Saturday, September 7, this year, the deceased returned from a funeral and received information that the accused persons and their accomplices had gone to remove boundary pillars, which he had erected on the land in dispute.

The prosecutor told the court that the Andrews Yegbe confronted the accused persons because of their action resulting in a quarrel during which he (the deceased) allegedly shot and wounded one Richard Nutsiagbor with a locally manufactured pistol.

Chief Inspector Cudjoe said Ametepe lodged a complaint at the police station against the deceased for shooting his son, Nutsiagbor on the same day.

The complainant went to the police station with a gun purported to have been used by Andrews Yegbe in wounding Nutsiagbor, who was at the time on admission at the hospital.

Inspector Cudjoe said the following day while the police were investigating the alleged shooting incident, they received information that the deceased, who was reported to have fled, had been murdered on the disputed land.

He said the Police found the body of Andrews Yegbe in a supine position, in a pool of blood with his throat slit and two live ammunitions found beside his body.
