Suspected Fulani armed robbers attacked passengers

Atibie-Kwahu (E/R), Sept. 3, GNA – Five suspected Fulani armed robbers attacked, robbed and raped a number of passengers of two vehicles on the Kwahu Tafo-Adawso road on Wednesday night. The driver of one of the vehicles, a Toyota mini bus, Mr Philemon Mawutor, who was shot in the shoulder, had been admitted at the Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Nkawkaw Divisional Police Crime Officer, Mr William Daah said, the incident occurred at about 1930 hours, when Mr Mawutor’s mini bus with eleven passengers on board, travelling from Nkawkaw to the Afram Plains District was stopped at a section of the road by five suspected Fulani armed men wielding two AK 47 assault rifles, a shotgun, cutlasses and clubs.

The robbers, he said, shot and hit the shoulder of the driver, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which crashed in a ditch. He said the robbers then shot the tyres of bus, ordered the wailing and traumatized passengers to lie down, while they searched and removed their monies and ransacked their luggage.

ASP Daah said the robbers destroyed the windscreens and side glasses of the bus.

He said a Benz bus, which arrived from Adawso direction, was also stopped and the passengers made to suffer the same fate. The Crime Officer said about 2030 hours, a Benz truck, driven by one Kwabena Asante from the Kwahu Tafo direction who saw the scene, managed to turn around but had two of its tyres shot, yet the driver was able to escape and reported at the Tafo police station. He said by the time a team of policemen rushed to the scene, the robbers had fled. He said the police had mounted an intensive search to arrest the robbers.
