Suspected drug peddler arrested with a sack of Indian hemp

Aflao (V/R), Dec. 20 GNA – Christopher Tornyenyo, 35, a suspected drug peddler was arrested at a Police snap-check point at Agavedzi in the Ketu District on Monday with a sack full of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Mr Baba Moro, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of crime at Aflao, briefing the Ghana News Agency said the Police at Agavedzi arrested Tornyenyo following a tip-off that the suspect was on a Denu/Anloga bound commercial bus with a bag of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

He said when Police flagged the Isuzu mini bus to a stop at the checkpoint at about 0730 hours, the suspect sensing danger jumped out from the vehicle and took to his heels but was pursued by the Police and arrested.

ASP Moro said the Police found the sack containing the stuff and the driver identified Tornyenyo, who has since been remanded in Prisons custody by the Aflao Circuit Court, as its owner. He said the exhibit has been sent for a forensic laboratory test in Accra.

ASP Moro appealed to the public to continue to furnish the Police with information to enhance policing in the country.
