Suspected drug Lord and fugitive David McDermott insists on calling a witness to testify against charges preferred against him by the United Kingdom and Ghana’s attempt to extradite him to stand trial in the UK.
An attempt by his lawyer, Victor Adawudu to have him in a conference with his witness at the BNI was disallowed.
Lawyer prayed the court to order the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to grant his client access and ample time to meet with him and the proposed witness.
Ultimate news’ Wilberforce Asare reports that State Prosecutors however insist that the fugitive must open his defence before he can call any witness.
The case has been stood down to allow the defense lawyer to conference with his client before he opens his defence.
McDermott was hunted by the National Crime Agency and was finally arrested in an international sting operation at his home in the affluent Burma Hills area of country’s capital Accra this week.
The 42-year-old had married and had a child with the daughter of the Governor of the country’s Central bank, Kofi Wampah.
Suspected of being a member of an organised crime syndicate from Liverpool – he has been on the run for three-years for his connection to a smuggling plot to import £71 million worth of cocaine into the UK.
