Suspected cable thief found dead

A notorious electrical cable thief operating in and around Winneba was on Tuesday found dead under a low tension electrical pole at Low Cost, a suburb of Winneba.

Narrating the story to the Ghana News Agency, Superintendent Rev John Oporku said, they received a telephone call in the early hours of Tuesday, that an unidentified person was lying dead beneath an electrical pole near Nage Hotel.

He said the body of the deceased was searched and found injures on his head indicating that he fell from the pole while attempting to cut the cables.

He said the body was sent to Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital where he was clinically confirmed dead by the medical officer on duty.

He said while the body was being sent to the morgue, people indentified the deceased as Yaw Edicey, a notorious cable thief, who lived with his parents at Winneba Junction.

Superintendent Oporku said the police managed to contact the father of the deceased who went with them to the mortuary and identified his son.
