Suspected armed robber remanded

Asamankese (E/R), Oct. 13, GNA – The Asamankese Circuit Court has remanded Fuseini Awudu, a 24-year-old unemployed charged with armed robbery.

Awudu who pleaded not guilty would re-appear on October 17. Detective Inspector Osei Owusu, prosecuting, told the court that Awudu, and a colleague, now at large, on October 5, robbed one Joseph Darko Markaya of his 21-inch colour television set, a camera and three million cedis cash at gun point.

The Prosecutor told the court that on October 4, Mr Markaya, performed the final funeral rites of his late mother after which he and his family retired to bed but in the early hours of the morning, they heard an unusual bang on the main entrance, followed by a gunshot. They woke up only to be held hostage by armed men who ordered them to surrender all their monies.

The robbers, he said, then searched the house from room to room and took away valuables.

The prosecutor said following a report to the Police, Awudu was seen and identified by a witness as one of the culprits. 13 Oct. 03
