Suspect dies in police cells

Koforidua, July 5, GNA – A 34-year-old mason, Stephen Sodzi, died in

police cells at new Tafo last Friday. Sodzi was put in the cell on Thursday on suspicion of setting his ex-wife’s house ablaze and causing harm to her. Police Chief Inspector Nketia Yeboah, the Regional Public Affairs Officer of the police command, said the deceased in the afternoon of Frid ay was visited by a relative who gave him a bottle of coke and meat pie. He said the bottle of the drink was taken away from Sodzi after he h ad drunk the contents but he hid the crown coke from the police. That same day at about 2100 hours, police men on duty heard an unusu al noise in the cells and they rushed there they saw the deceased in a pool of blood with a slit throat. Chief Inspector Yeboah said Sodzi was taken to the Tafo Government Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sodzi’s ex-wife, Rose Abansa, is in critical condition at the same hospital.
