A Circuit Court at Koforidua on Friday sentenced a 28-year-old Surveyor, who posed as an Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), and defrauded his friend of 4.040 million cedis under the pretext of securing him job at VRA, to three years imprisonment in hard labour.
The convict, William Nyame Marfo, pleaded not guilty to the charges of falsely pretending to be a worker at VRA and defrauding by false pretences.
The court ordered Marfo to refund the money to the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Tettey.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Mary Attoh said on April 4 last year, Nyame went to the drinking bar of Mr Tettey and during conversation introduced himself as a senior officer of VRA and said he could help Nyame to secure a job with the security Department of VRA.
According to the Prosecutor, Tettey expressed interest and paid 4.040 million cedis to Nyame in bits.
After sometime, the complainant realised that Nyame could not secured him the job, and when efforts to get his money proved futile, he reported the matter to the Regional CID at koforidua and Nyame was arrested.
