Accra, Oct. 23, GNA – The Supreme Court will on Friday give reasons why it dismissed an application for certiorari brought before it by Tsatsu Tsikata, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
Tsikata is currently serving a five-year jail term at the Nsawam Prisons, after he was convicted by an Accra Fast Track Court on June 18 for causing financial loss to the state and misapplying funds. Following his conviction, he filed a certiorari application at the Supreme Court, seeking an order to quash the sentence imposed on him by Mrs Henrietta Abban, the trial judge.
At the court’s sitting on the matter on October 16, the five-member panel, presided over by Ms Justice Sophia Akuffo, dismissed Tsikata’s application as being without any merit.
It, however, deferred reasons for the dismissal to October 24. The other panel members were Mr Justice Julius Ansah, Mrs Justice Rose Owusu, Mr Justice Jones Dotse and Mr Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie. Tsatsu represented himself, while Mrs Gertrude Aikins, Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, appeared for the State. 23 Oct. 08
