Supreme Court Nominee Justice Dzamefe Calls for AI Driven Judicial Revolution in Ghana

Supreme Court nominee Justice Senyo Dzamefe has made a passionate appeal for a technological transformation of Ghana’s judiciary, advocating for the adoption of artificial intelligence, digital transcription tools, and virtual courtrooms to replace the country’s outdated manual processes.

Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, June 16, 2025, Justice Dzamefe highlighted the urgent need for modernization to address inefficiencies in the justice system.

“We must go with technology. The time of long handwriting is long gone past,” Justice Dzamefe declared, emphasizing that real-time documentation through AI-powered transcription and voice recording systems would enhance both the speed and transparency of court proceedings.

The nominee also pushed for the integration of virtual courtrooms, allowing for remote testimonies and hearings, a practice that gained traction globally during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“By the end of the day, once the court is done sitting, the records are ready. We also need to go virtual, so people can testify online. We must be abreast with time, otherwise we will be left out,” he said.

Justice Dzamefe’s proposals come amid mounting criticisms of Ghana’s judiciary for persistent case backlogs, slow adjudication, and limited access to justice in rural areas. He joins a growing chorus of reform advocates calling for a tech-driven overhaul to align the judicial system with modern global standards.

If confirmed to the Supreme Court, Justice Dzamefe is expected to champion these reforms, bringing a forward-thinking approach to Ghana’s apex court and furthering efforts to create a more efficient, accessible, and transparent judicial system.
