Supporters of Kyeremanteng condemns formation of new party

Takoradi Sept.7, GNA – Supporters of Mr Alan Kyeremanteng, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Western Region, have co ndemned the formation of the United Front Party (UFP) in Ashanti Region. They claimed that the UFP was targeting those who supported Mr Kyeremateng in his bid to win the NPP flagbearership. These are contained in a statement read by Mr. Charles Larbi Boateng, spokesperson of supporters of Mr Kyeremanteng in the Western Region, at a press conference at Takoradi on Monday.

Mr. Boateng said that followers of Mr Kyeremanteng in the Western Region had nothing to do with the newly formed party and they had therefore distanced themselves from its activities. He said “We of the Alan Camp in the Western Region want to state categorically that we have nothing whatsoever to do with the UFP and just as Alan has distanced himself from this new party, we also do same”.

Mr Boateng said that information gathered from Ashanti Region indicated that the UFP intended to storm the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis with followers of Mr Kyeremanteng as its target. He said this would not be successful since “we of Alan camp in the Western Region have decided that we would throw our weight behind Nana Akuffo-Addo, NPP flagbearer, and do whatever we can within our power to help him recapture power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Mr. Boateng said “The NPP has elected a flagbearer for the 2012 General Election and the process that was adopted in doing so is an innovation that has never happened anywhere in Africa”. He stressed that the NPP congress absolutely and unequivocally endorsed Nana Akuffo-Addo as the NPP flagbearer.

Mr. Boateng alleged that the NDC was behind the formation of the new party to dismantle the united front of the NPP. He appealed to NPP supporters, who might have supported the formation of the UFP, to rescind their decision and return to the NPP so that their grievances whether real or illusive could be laid bare for prompt action.
