President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to unite behind the Black Stars and give the coaching staff the freedom to do their job without public interference.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, President Mahama acknowledged the country’s deep passion for football, humorously suggesting that “33 million coaches” exist in Ghana, each with their own opinion on team selection and tactics.
“I know we have 33 million coaches in Ghana, but let’s allow the Black Stars coaches to work,” he said. “Let’s keep our coaching to ourselves.”
Mahama appealed for collective support rather than criticism as the national team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Let’s all support the Black Stars and don’t bring partisan consideration,” he stressed. “We are one in supporting the Black Stars. The Black Stars is our team.”
His comments come at a time when public debate over squad selection and tactics has intensified following Ghana’s qualification for their fifth World Cup appearance.
President Mahama’s message echoes growing calls for national unity ahead of the tournament, with many urging fans to channel their passion into encouragement rather than division.
The Black Stars are expected to begin preparations in the coming months, and President Mahama believes a united Ghana will give the team the best chance of success on the world stage.
