Obuasi, April 16, GNA-The presiding member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Nana Asirifi Asare II on Thursday called on Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliation to support the policies and programmes of the ruling government to speed up the development of the country.
“We have voted the government to power and that it behoves us as a country to support the government’s programmes and policies to make the country governable,” he said.
Nana Asirifi Asare made the call when he inaugurated a 245-million-cedi water closet facility at Kokoteasua, a suburb of Obuasi.
The facility was built and financed by Messrs Yaw Fosu Enterprise, a local building contractor under the Obuasi Municipal Assembly’s privatisation of toilet management scheme. Under the scheme, private individuals are encouraged to build water closet toilets and manage them for a period for communities to assist the assembly in improving sanitation in the municipality. Nana Asare urged Ghanaians to ensure that there was peace and stability in the country.
He noted that good leadership facilitated development and praised the acting Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Joe Boampong for his leadership qualities that had brought progress to the municipality.
“I want to, specially appeal to the President to re-nominate him for us,” the presiding member stressed. Nana Asare advised communities in the municipality to initiate self-help projects to win the support of the assembly.
Mr Owusu Fordjour, the assemblyman, appealed to the assembly for the construction of a market and a school.
He commended the contractor for completing the project within three months and praised residents in the community for maintaining proper environmental sanitation over the years despite the fact that there was no public toilet facility in the area.
Nana Kwaku Darkwa, Kokoteasuahene, appealed to the assembly to speed up work on the additional toilet since the completed 20-seater was not adequate.
Mr Fosu, the contractor, said he accepted the challenge because of the problems the entire community was facing as a result of lack of the facility in the area.
