Considering the enormous contribution agriculture annually offer to Ghana’s economy, yet attracts comparatively small attention from the state, has led to an appeal for government to make conscious effort to support the country’s agric value chain.
With agriculture contributing about 20-21% per annum to Ghana’s gross domestic product (GDP), Mr. Perry Mensah, a Management and Tax Consultant has called on government to shift much focus and support to the nation’s agric value chain to help stabilize Ghana’s jerking economy.
He deduced that with the economical gains Ghana enjoys each year from cocoa alone, deems it necessary for government to place much relevance on agriculture in the country.
Mr. Perry Mensah admonished this at the AGRI-THRIVE Seminar, organized by the University of Cape Coast Agribusiness Students’ Association on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Sasakawa Conference Centre, dubbed, “Empowering Agripreneurs, Enriching Lives.”
The seminar which garnered astute brains to share insight on agriculture, forms part of activities scheduled to earmark the association’s week celebration.
Speaking in an engagement with the media, the Management and Tax Consultant eulogized the importance of making agriculture appealing to students and the youth by establishing commercial farms across the country to give students hands-on opportunities and employment, rather than having the aged engage more actively in the country’s agricultural space.
Joshua Jimanor Tetteh, President of the UCC Agribusiness Students’ Association of Ghana (ABSAG), recounted that the seminar put up by his outfit is to empower entrepreneurs in the sector of agribusiness.
He reiterated the association’s observation that most Ghanaians have less interest for agriculture. Thus, saw the need as agribusiness students to put together such an event to better project agriculture to be more sexy and attractive for people, particularly students to turn their minds onto.
