Sunyani Traditional Council Clears Alhaji Texaco

Space FM, Sunyani – A fact finding Committee set up by the Sunyani Traditional Council to investigate the installation of Alhaji Abubakar Iddrissu as Chief of Gonja Community in Sunyani , has presented its report to the Omanhene of the Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II .

The committee took seven months to complete its work.

The setting up of the committee was necessitated when the Chief Imam of Sunyani, Alhaji Abubakar Bala petitioned the Council and the Brong-Ahafo Regional police command following the rejection of Alhaji Abubakar Iddrissu also known as Alhaji Texaco as chief of the Gonjas by some members of the Gonja community.

The Chairman of the Committee, Nana Kwaku Saabeng II who is the Akwamuhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area, said the committee established that Alhaji Texaco is a Gonja on the maternal side and could occupy the vacant seat of the Gonjas as the Gonja tradition demands.

Their recommendation further quashed the allegation by some members of the Gonja community that Alhaji Texaco is a Zamrama and not a Gonja. It established that Alhaji Abubakar Iddrissu is not a Zamrama but half Gonja, half Dagomba.

Other members of the committee were Nana Boadi Akrofa –Adontenhene and Nana Kwadwo Boadi –Gyaasehene. :
