Abesim (B/A) June 17, GNA – Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive on Thursday inaugurated a library complex and three-unit classroom block constructed by the Assembly at Abesim in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The library complex was built at an estimated cost of GH¢ 40,000 whilst the classroom block attracted GH¢33,000.
The Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the Abesim Roman Catholic Primary and Junior High School initiated and supported the classroom project with an amount of GH¢3,000.
Mr Oppong-Ababio noted that since education played a critical role in the developmental process of every nation, the Assembly and Central Government would strive to improve on the educational infrastructure in the area.
He said the Assembly was negotiating with a Canadian organisation to furnish the library with books and computers to broaden the knowledge of pupils who would patronise the facility.
Mr Oppong-Ababio cautioned the youth of the area to eschew illicit sex, drug abuse and alcoholism and rather channel their exuberance into productive ventures.
He reminded the chiefs and people of the area on the need for them to bury their political differences and support the development of the town.
The Municipal Chief Executive expressed regret that partisan politics was creating division especially among the chiefs, adding that the developmental agenda should be the hallmark of every traditional council.
Mr Joseph Kwadwo Damoah, Head Teacher of the School said due to inadequate classrooms the academic facility was running a shift system, which had contributed to truancy among the pupils.
He commended the PTA and the Municipal Assembly for the school block, which he said would bring an end to the shift system and promote effective teaching and learning.
Nana Owusu Adomako Yeboah, Krontihene of Abesim who presided over the ceremony commended Mr Oppong-Ababio for the number of educational infrastructure he had brought to the town since 2009.
He gave the assurance that the Abesim Traditional Council would work in concert with the Municipal Assembly to ensure the speedy development of the area.
Nana Yeboah expressed concern about the alarming rate of alcoholism and drug abuse among the youth in the area and called for stringent measures to bring the situation under control.
