Sunyani Catholic schools get computer centre

Sunyani (B/A), Nov. 24, GNA – Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, District Chief Executive for Sunyani at the weekend inaugurated a Computer centre fitted with 20 computers for the Sacred Heart Catholic Primary and Junior Secondary schools at Penkwase in Sunyani.

He noted that the project was the first of its kind in any of the state-owned schools in the district and commended the Reverend Father Martin Corazzin, Parish Priest of the local Catholic Church through whose initiative the computers were donated by the Government of Navarra in Spain.

Mr Baffour-Awuah advised the pupils and students of the school to make good use of the facility.

In a welcoming address, Fr Corazzin announced that the project formed part of three facilities that the Government of Navarra had so far given to the school within the past four years, with an intervention by Franciscan Friars, an organisation within the Catholic Church.

Fr Corazzin said the government of Navarra had also donated a mechanised borehole for new Dormaa community of “Amango Group”, also in Sunyani and a four-wheel Nissan Terrano vehicle for him to supervise the various projects put up by the Franciscan Friars in the area.

He announced that the three projects cost 36,331.87 Euros.

The commissioning of the computer project coincided with the school’s first Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting for the 2003/2004 academic year.

Mr Anthony Kwaku Asante, Head teacher in-charge of the Sacred Heart Primary School assured parents and guardians that it was the school’s objective to raise its present performance standard of 60 percent to 70 percent in the next Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
