Summary dismissal for drunkard teachers

Agona Swedru, 13 Jan ’99 – Mr S.A. Tenkorang, Agona district director of education has cautioned that henceforth drunkards and absentee teachers will be summarily dismissed from the service when found out. He said some teachers are taking the teaching profession for granted and that the Ghana Education Service will no longer tolerate this situation. Mr Tenkorang gave the warning in a new year message to teachers in the district to outline programmes for 1999 academic year. He said the standard of education in the Agona district has improved tremendously as compared to previous years. The district director disclosed that a “send your child to school programme launched by the Central Regional co-ordinating council last year yielded positive results, adding that enrolment in schools has increased. Mr Tenkorang said in order to narrow the gap between urban and rural schools, six schools have been selected in the district for experimental teaching. On supervision, Mr Tenkorang exhorted circuit supervisors to intensify their supervision to curb drunkenness, absenteeism and laziness on the part of some teachers.
